{"id":120064,"date":"2024-04-29T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riverheadnewsreview.timesreview.com\/?p=120064"},"modified":"2024-04-29T12:09:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T16:09:29","slug":"colorful-new-pub-on-tap-at-indian-island-golf-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverheadnewsreview.timesreview.com\/2024\/04\/120064\/colorful-new-pub-on-tap-at-indian-island-golf-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorful new pub on tap at Indian Island golf course"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A bunch of self-proclaimed \u201cidiots\u201d are set to breathe new life into Kenny\u2019s on the Green, the popular tap room and restaurant that served as the &#8220;19th hole&#8221; at county-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/riverheadnewsreview.timesreview.com\/2022\/05\/110478\/overnight-shed-fire-destroys-golf-carts-at-indian-island-golf-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Indian Island golf course<\/a> in Riverhead which abruptly closed earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new restaurant and bar will be re-opening, possibly by Memorial Day weekend, as the fourth in a chain of Long Island bar\/restaurants called the <a href=\"https:\/\/villageidiotpubs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Village Idiot Pub<\/a>, with outposts in Patchogue, Lake Grove and Oakdale. The Riverhead branch will be called Village Idiot Pub on the 19th Tee, according to John Sarno, one of the owners of the restaurant chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe place has crazy potential to be a busier place,\u201d Mr. Sarno said of the new spot. \u201cIt&#8217;s a no brainer. There is untapped potential there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Sarno and partners Tim Kelly and Mike Krohn are banking on their unique brand of hospitality and entertainment to draw in new customers as well as previous patrons. He said Kenny&#8217;s regulars will likely see some familiar faces behind the bar and around the restaurant, as he intends to keep \u201cmost\u201d of the staff from Kenny\u2019s, as well as bringing in new people, including a new manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe apparently had a very good staff,\u201d Mr. Sarno said of previous tenant Kenny Sawler, adding that he\u2019ll be meeting with everyone on the staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It remains unclear why <a href=\"https:\/\/northforker.com\/2022\/01\/kennys-on-the-green-offers-new-american-comfort-food-in-riverhead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kenny\u2019s on the Green<\/a> closed abruptly earlier this month, even as bands were scheduled to play at the venue throughout spring and summer 2024. The new Riverhead outpost will have a space for private parties and offer catering services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new owners are also planning for entertainment, including live music, bingo and trivia nights and plenty of new TVs in the bar area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Sarno said a significant renovation will begin this week, including replacing the roof and gutters and tearing out the main entrance, across from the pro shop.
